We will first go all the way up the mountain to the ecological mirador of Cachotte from where you can observe the river of Nizaito, the beach of Paraiso and the mountains of Polo.
On the way we will make several stops in order to see all the variety of the agriculture in the mountains of Bahoruco: coffee, cacao and other tropical fruits.
At the top of the mountain, at 1400 meters, we will be in the middle of the cold cloud forest where scientists have identified 45 types of endemic birds (one of them is the famous dominican parrot: Cotorra Hispaniola.
This bird paradis will also be our lunch break.
At the end of the walk (40 minutes) we will arrive in the typical village of Cachote where people live without water and electricity.
After lunch we will have a nice walk downhill inside the cloud forest. All along the way you will find explanations about the plants you can see. Some are used in medicine or cosmetology, other are used by local haitian voudou!!!
After meeting with the community, we will go down hill with the truck, within the rain forest of Paraiso, to the village of Villa Nizao located in the valley next to the river of Nizaito. This valley is known for its great production of orange, coconuts and mangoes.
If you whish, you’ll be able to swim in the river which is usually the favorite playground of the children of the area.
